HISTORY AND LITERATURE WORKSHOP

The History and Literature Workshop is a forum for scholars committed to exploring literature in the Central Asian past and to building the field of literary studies in Central Asia. First held in 2014, it has since provided a venue for an enduring examination of the ways in which literature illuminates history and also of the varied ways in which histories and past contexts mark Central Asian literatures, literary movements, and novels.Ìý

CASI held its most recent iteration of the workshop in November 2021. With junior scholars and advanced graduate students from Yale, Berkeley, Reed, and Michigan Ann-Arbor, it focused on polishing and refining work intended for publication, including an expansive volume of Central Asian literature in translation – entitled Tulips in Bloom – that Palgrave has committed to issuing.Ìý

The History and Literature Workshop has been invaluable in establishing AUCA as a center of innovative humanities research. The university is now the focal point of a vibrant, collaborative effort to engage Central Asian literature and to illuminate the region through its literary art. Every article, thesis, and panel the workshop generates reinforces CASI’s reputation as a center of creative scholarship.Ìý

The Literature and History Workshop was made possible by a generous donation from Matthew Nimetz.
