Students matter
MACAS provides its students a bespoke educational experience. The small size of the program means that students interact and work with their professors in a manner that is unusual in other departments, with each receiving individual attention from scholars working in a range of disciplines.
Knowledge and skills “without bordersâ€
MACAS faculty bring a range of perspectives to the program, with scholars specializing in areas as diverse as literature, anthropology, history, and politics. The program is defined by its commitment to multiple disciplinary optics, allowing its students to acquire skills that traverse distinct fields of scholarly expertise.
Study Central Asia in Central Asia
MACAS offers students the unparalleled opportunity to study Central Asia in Central Asia. Students in the program can study the history and politics of the region in a classroom and thenÌý step outside into an immersive cultural and linguistic environment.
Global connections
MACAS offers the best of its students the opportunity to spend a semester at the Central Eurasian Studies Department in Indiana University, Bloomington, or at selected
universities participating in the Open Society University Network (OSUN). MACAS students can also apply for scholarships to conduct research (30-120 days) at partner OSUN institutions.
